Motivation

The EDRN Public Portal includes a number of navigation elements (tabs on top, quick links on left) that use an HTML frame trick to display content from the DMCC. This prevents content from being indexed for searches, disturbs the user interface between sections, and reduces the ability to provide QoS.

To resolve this, the navigation elements should use data that is now available within EKE.

Assumptions

  • Lists of EKE data is a downgrade from more organized display from DMCC—acceptable?
  • Breadth of EKE data equal to or better than what comes from DMCC

Proposal

  1. Update skin code to set tabs to appropriate locations within EKE

  2. Test searching of EKE entities

  2. Update portal_tabs
  3. Update quicklinks portlet
